Yes, apparently most people (see the review section on iTunes) are having this problem. I too loaded with a USB cable and it still doesn't work. Also, when upgrading, the iTune site doesn't recognize the up date. After two downloads there is sill an upgrade message for me to update to version 2.

Apparently this can be an issue when downloading the latest update over Wi-Fi. They have been working to fix this issue ASAP so expect another update in the coming weeks.
For now you can try uninstalling the Old application - and re-installing the lastest Birds from your desktop/laptop connected to iTunes. Using the USB cable to load the app seems to be the only way to get this version to behave properly.
Cheers

I had this same problem after updating, though I updated via USB/iTunes and *not* over WiFi.
Using iTunes to force a sync (uncheck app, sync to remove, check app, sync to reinstall) does not fix the problem.
However, explicitly removing it from the iPhone (press and hold, press X, accept warning that it will remove the app and its data) then resyncing with iTunes to re-install it *does* fix the problem.
I suspect there is a stored data format incompatibility, so in my case, removing the app and its data followed by resyncing to reinstall the app corrected the issue and everything has been fine for me since then.

I'm having the same problem. Just downloaded the app today, and it won't run. I downloaded on my computer, and then synced to my phone (16GB 3G). Tried to run the app, and it started the "Loading..." screen, and then quit. I deleted from my phone as etkal suggested, and then resynced with my computer. Still won't load. Any further updates on how to get this running would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem that other have mentioned, although for me this is not an update, but the my first version. I have tried the various fixes and still no luck. Quite disappointing as the sampler worked well and so I decided to buy the full featured version. Any help would be appreciated

I finally got it working. I submitted a request for help, and got a pretty quick answer. It was what I had done before with one change. After you delete the app from your phone, shut the phone down and leave it off for five minutes. Then turn it back on and sync it with the app selected for syncing. The only difference from what I had done earlier was waiting a few minutes after shutting the phone down. Don't know why it worked, but it has worked great since then. (ver 1.3)

Thanks . . . mine seems to be working now as well. I turned off the iTouch last night and when I started it this morning, synced it, and it works. The turning off the iTouch seems to work.

If you are still experiencing crashes upon start up of the Bird App, here is a list of step by step instructions to guide you.
1. On the iPhone/iPod, tap and hold your finger on the Audubon Birds icon until the icons all start to shake and have an X on them.
2. Lift your finger and tap again on the Audubon Birds icon to delete it. You will have a confirmation message asking if you want to delete the app. Tap Delete.
3. Press the round menu button on the front of the iPhone/iPod to stop the icons from shaking and exit “delete” mode.
4. Power down your iPhone/iPod by pressing and holding the power button until a “slide to power off” slider appears. Slide to power down the phone.
5. Once powered down, wait for about 5 minutes (allowing the memory to clear), restart the phone by pressing and holding the power button.
6. Start iTunes on your computer and click Applications under Library in the left hand column.
7. Update Audubon Birds to the latest version by clicking the “check for updates” link on the bottom right. If you’re already logged into iTunes, then this link may say “x updates available” where x is the number of updates you have available.
8. Find the Audubon Birds app in the update list and click the get update button. If the Audubon Birds app isn’t in the update list then your iTunes should already be at the latest version. You can verify this by right clicking on the Audubon Birds icon in your Applications section and selecting “get info”. On the summary panel, the version number should be 1.3.
9. Connect your iPhone/iPod to your computer. If iTunes is setup to automatically sync on start-up let it finish. The app may not be sync'ed at this point yet.
10. Click on your iPhone/iPod on the left hand panel under Devices. The right hand side should now have details about your iPhone/iPod. There should also be a tab at the top on the right hand side called "applications". Click on this tab.
11. You will now see a list of your apps with checkboxes to the left of the names of the apps. Ensure the Audubon Birds app has a checkmark beside it. If not, then check this box so that iTunes will now sync the app.
12. Sync your iPhone by using the sync button on the bottom right of this screen or using the sync command in the File menu.
Try your app again to see if it is working properly. If you are still experiencing difficulties, please contact us.

"I finally got it to work and here's how. I would suggest posting this on your forum so others can try it. While turning off my Touch and re-syncing the App didn't work, it did work after I re-downloaded the App from iTunes onto my computer. Once you've purchased an App, you can always re-download it in case you accidentally delete one. After I re-downloaded the App from iTunes I re-synced my Touch, and it worked. So instead of having people search for updates, as in your instructions below, when they have just purchased the App they should try re-downloading the whole thing from iTunes rather than just searching for updates. Since I had just downloaded the App, there were no updates, which I think is why it didn't work.
I'm really happy with the App and excited I got it to work - good job on that front. Hopefully my tips here will help others. This is too good an App to give up on."

I had same problem and followed the help from marie, but first I did not see the "WAIT 5 minutes" so it did not work after the first delete.
I then read the solution again and this time read the 5 minute wait and followed it.
This time it worked.
So, remember to wait 5 minutes after the delete and all should be well.

The app works fine after downloading the update, except that my list of sightings is now gone. Granted, it wasn't very big, but I thought it was a nice start for me as a beginning birder. Is there any chance whatsoever that I could get it back?

Have you checked to make sure that your app has your account enabled? Let us know if you are able to access your sightings once you are logged into your account.
Thank you.
